The best GPs to see in Parramatta and North Parramatta, 2150 and 2151

According to the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission’s latest Annual Report, it received 7,852 complaints in the 12 months it covered i.e. more than 150 a week. And we believe two things are to be said about this. Firstly, that many many more complaints, perhaps 2 or 3 or 4 times as many, would have been lodged with it if it wasn’t widely recognised that making a complaint to the HCCC is a complete waste of time and effort – which it is. Secondly, whatever you may have lodged a complaint about, can’t be made good by the HCCC, “The horse has bolted,” as the old saying goes. That’s not their job.

What we, the people, have to do is do as much “homework” as possible to avoid falling into the hands of those health care workers who have been complained about. Fortunately, modern technology has made this SO much easier and simpler than it used to be.

To us, it’s now simply a matter of finding health care workers who are prepared to be held accountable for what they do and say, and, to us, being prepared to be accountable for what they do and say means being prepared to put things in writing, and, to us, this means finding health care workers who have ordinary email addressees readily available, because emails make it easy for us to request them to put things in writing, and for them to put things writing. To us, health care workers who don’t have ordinary email addresses may as well have written up somewhere, in big red letters, “I will not be held accountable for what I do  and say – they don’t want be, because, a lot of the time, they themselves are not sure that the things they are doing and saying are right.

Of course, being prepared to put things in writing is a bother and , in a sense, it’s natural for health care workers to hope to be successful without being involved in this sort of thing – it’s a matter of competition. It’s a matter of finding those who are, when, with GPs at least, less than 1 in 10 of them are – which this blog is all about.

To us, it’s as simple as this – after we’ve had a face-to-face consultation with a GP, we should send them a letter along these lines – “In my face-to- face consultation with you today, I understood you to say blah blah blah, blah blah blah. Have I understood you correctly? In particular, are there any  possibly detrimental side effects to the treatments you’ve recommended, other than the ones I’ve mentioned?” Doing things in this way makes it as easy as possible for the health care workers concerned, as such an emails normally requires just a “Yes” answer. We recognise that this can be overkill at times – but normally, if the health care worker won’t respond to such a letter, we should be looking for one who will.

Of course, such letters can be sent by Australia Post, if need be, but the health care workers we are looking for will have an ordinary email address so we won’t be put to the time and trouble this involves for us and them.

To us it’s this simple – the hunt is on for GPs who have ordinary email addresses, and the GPs we should be using are those who provide the best responses to emails sent to them
